Presentation of Monitoring Project in Papua New Guinea

Organisation:Divine Word University Communication Arts Department

Event: two small research projects conducting by 2nd year Communication Arts students at the Divine Word University. Directed by the professor Amanda Watson, one class is monitoring three national newspapers, the 6pm news broadcast on several radio stations, and the national television station’s nightly 6pm news for five nights. The other class has decided to look into the percentage of female graduates from communications degrees in Papua New Guinea, and to compare this to the findings of the first class’s media monitoring. Does the percentage of female journalists impact upon the media’s output? This effort to determine whether or not the GMMP findings are applicable to Papua New Guinea. They decided to do this out of a belief that the situation in Papua New Guinea is different to what the GMMP found in 76 countries. The findings of these studies will be presented by the International Women's Day. That information will be also made available on the university website, and the GMMP website.
